OBJECTIVES

The overall objectives of MHP are:

  1. To make provision for easily accessible and acceptable mental health care to the Nepalese people, particularly to the women and children.
  2. To encourage communities and government to take responsibility for the people who are suffering from mental illness.
  3. to raise public awareness of mental health issues and their effect on individual and society.
  4. To increase the number of health workers and care givers in the country.
  5. To initiate the introduction of mental health teaching into various Institute of Medicine curricula.
    Mental Health Project has developed a on community level mental health care system through the existing general health care system. These services are running in horizontal integration with Ministry of Health, HMG, at the level of District Public Health Offices. Mental illness care service is being delivered in rural communities of Morang, Kaski, Syangja, and Banke districts. To initiate and continue these programs various levels of training are being conducted. These models could be replicated all over the country.

    Mental health project has recently focused heavily on Child Mental Health. In this regard, child focused activities like – community based child support program and psychosocial stimulationj program in Morang has been launched this year.
