MAJOR ACTIVITIES OF
THE DEPARTMENT
Clinical Services

Out patient : Provides services for patients suffering
from different mental health problems. The department runs 6 general and
3 special clinics (Child guidance, Headache & Epilepsy and Psychosexual).
every time in private cabins in other wards. Beds are always full. Everyday
many needy patients fail to get admission. Average duration of hospital
stay for each patient is about 11 days.

EEG services : The department also runs EEG service for impatient, outpatients,
and patients from other health institutions since 1985. This service has
been first of its kind in the country.
Academic activities :
The Department runs its own MD program, three
years postgraduate training. The Department is providing training in mental
health for MBBS, BPH, M.Sc. PH, MDGP, DCH and other university level programs.
The Department runs different academic activities
every week for the benefit of different postgraduate and undergraduate
students, house officers and other interested medical rounds.
Rounds :
The Department, through its projects has been
involved in pioneering researches e.g. psychiatric emergencies, mental
Health patients in primary health care centre, Drug and Alcohol abuse prevalence
studies, qualitative studies of drug abuse etc. Its members have personally
conducted many studies published nationally and outside. The Department
is conducting research work on Child Sexual Abuse, Maternal Illness and
Epilepsy prevalence.
